Canine Capers/Demonstrations/Events

Several fun "Canine Capers" will be held during the day, along with various demonstrations and other dog & owner activities. We encourage people and their dogs to enter the contests! Sign-up is all that's required for participation! The events will take place from 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. in a ring at the south side of Tappan Square (closest to West College St.). Plan now and be sure to visit the sign-up table for contest entry as soon as you arrive on Doggie Doo day! Sign-up will begin promptly at 11 A.M. at the sign-up table, located near the contest ring.

Prizes will be awarded to the winning dogs and owners, and winners will featured in the Pooch Parade, which will assemble at 3 P.M., and start at 3:30 P.M.

The Capers and Events are still being finalized.

They will include the following Capers:

  1. Best Singing Dog
  2. Best Bunch (best costume for a group 3 or more dogs)
  3. Best Dancing Dog
  4. Cutest Couple (best costume for 2 dogs)
  5. Best Trick
  6. Coolest Canine (best costume for individual dogs)

...and Demonstrations and Events, including:

Various times in contest ring The "Showcase of Adoptables" dogs available for adoption will be showcased in the contest ring at various times
11 A.M. - 3 P.M. Lois and Ed Friedman of "Canine Sports" encouraging people to bond with their dogs through fun, challenges and time spent together; providing dog obedience, agility, and rally demonstrations at no charge; your dog can participate in the agility and rally courses for a $1(each) charge.
11 A.M. - 2 P.M. Cindy Hoppes of Pawsitively Good Pups

Cindy studied with Michelle Blount; she bases her training techniques on the philosophy and styles that Michelle promotes; these emphasize structure, positive reinforcement and an understanding of how dogs learn; providing a demonstration of agilityat no charge, plus opportunity to participate in agility course for $1.00 charge

11 A.M. - 2 P.M. Scott VanDenHaute of Versatile K-9 Training Academy Scott was trained directly under Linn Boyke, one of only three apprentices to Cesar Millan, NGC's "The Dog Whisperer," providing dog training demonstrations with Cindy Hoppes
1 P.M. H.U.M.E.S K9 police dog demonstration
1 P.M. Mel McGrath of Paramount Dog Training specialist in dog training and "training the trainer", providing dog training demonstrations

Judges for the contests include: Jeff Eliasoph (Channel 19 reporter), Dan Gardner (past Oberlin City Council President), Lori Kokoski (Lorain County Commissioner), Shari Pena (Assistant to Lorain County Commissioner Kokoski), and Danielle Serino (Channel 19 weekend anchor).


LifeShare logoIn addition to all the fun dog events and demonstrations, LifeShare Blood Mobile will be at the event, hosting a blood drive. Please consider giving blood while you're at the DoggieDoo, a most worthwhile endeavor! The Blood Mobile will be parked on West College St., at the curb on the southwest side of Tappan Square, across from the Oberlin College Conservatory.
